Occasionally when deep decay, a crack, break or injury is present and the nerve in the center of the tooth is irreversibly damaged, a root canal may be required.
What should I expect at my appointment?
Firstly, your dentist will removal the decay that runs down the center of the root. Then, once the decay has been removed, a material will be applied to seal the canal/s made by cleaning the decay.
To ensure the longevity of the tooth, a crown will also typically be applied. A crown covers the entire tooth to reduce the risk of breakage or further damage.
Your dentist will discuss the most suitable option for you when planning the treatment.
Occasionally, we may need to refer difficult cases to an Endodontist for treatment.
